The SDGs, or Sustainable Development Goals, are a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure that by 2030 everyone enjoys peace and prosperity. This call is embodied in 17 interrelated goals designed as a “shared blueprint” that was adopted on September 25, 2015, at the United Nations Headquarters.
The development of all sectors in the SDGs is highly dependent on the active role of all stakeholders. These include the central and regional governments, the business world, the mass media, social institutions, professional organizations, and academics. We often refer to the collaboration between these five parties as the pentahelix.
Cita Sehat plays a role as a social institution that actively collaborates with many parties in implementing health programs to achieve the SDGs.
Cita Sehat participates in SDG number 2, which is to end hunger, achieve food security, improve nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture. CSF also contributes to SDG number 3, “Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages.”
Some Cita Sehat’s program activities that contribute to the SDGs in Indonesia are Primary Clinics, Friends of the Elderly, and Nutritious TAS (Reducing Stunting Rates with Nutritious Food).
Cita Sehat manages primary clinics for the general public and for underprivileged communities in need through curative health assistance programs. Cita Sehat Primary Clinics provide basic health facilities such as general clinics, dental clinics, maternal and child health clinics, and childbirth services at the Surabaya Clinic. Currently, Cita Sehat Primary Care Clinics are located in East Jakarta, Semarang, Pekanbaru, Yogyakarta, Surabaya, and partner clinics in Medan.
Cita Sehat Clinic not only provides medical services but also health education as part of its promotional efforts for patients and underprivileged communities around the clinic. Through this program, we contribute to SDG 2, which is to reduce maternal mortality and infant mortality rates.
Friends of the Elderly
This program focuses on the prevention of non-communicable diseases and promotive efforts by providing health education and nutritious food to elderly citizens with low to middle economic status. Although the program is called “Sahabat Lansia” (Friends of the Elderly), it also targets the middle age group according to the WHO. According to the WHO, there are four stages/age limits, namely:
- Middle age: 45-59 years old
- Elderly: 60-74 years old
- Old age: 75-90 years old
- Very old age: > 90 years old.
This program will contribute to SDG number 2, which is to meet the nutritional needs of the elderly.
Nutritious Bags or Reduce Stunting Rates with Nutritious Food
Stunting and wasting remain major problems in Indonesia and globally. Therefore, Cita Sehat will continue to make stunting and wasting one of the main programs in the organization’s activities.
This program will focus on promotional activities, namely providing education on the importance of nutritious food for pregnant and breastfeeding mothers. Meanwhile, preventive activities will be implemented by providing nutritious food for BGK (below the yellow line) toddlers and more intensive intervention for BGM (below the red line) toddlers during weigh-ins at the integrated health service post.
This program contributes to SDG number 2, which is to end all forms of malnutrition, namely stunting and wasting in children under 5 years of age, by 2030.
