May 29 is National Elderly Day when all Indonesian people respect older people who have provided valuable experiences and contributions to previous generations. Cita Sehat organizes various activities, including sports activities for older people, to commemorate this moment.

Elderly Gymnastics in Cimenyan Village, Bandung

This morning in Cimenyan Village, more than 20 older adults took part in the mass exercise with great enthusiasm and joy. In this activity, the participants, mostly over 55, practiced moderate-intensity activity according to their needs and physical limitations.

Elderly exercise is not only physical activity but also offers benefits for the participants’ health. The advantages include:

  1. Better Physical Health

Measurable moderate-intensity activity with the help of an instructor and adapted to the physical condition of older people help increase mobility, muscle strength, and body balance. This activity can also help maintain a healthy weight and prevent the risk of diseases such as obesity, diabetes, and heart disease.

  1. Better Mental and Emotional Health

Gymnastics for seniors is an opportunity for social interaction and building new relationships. This activity allows participants to exchange stories, share experiences and enjoy togetherness. Physical activity also stimulates the release of endorphins, hormones that help improve mood and reduce stress.

  1. Prevents Cognitive Function Decline

Brain exercises, such as memorizing movements, following instructions, and coordinating, can help train and maintain knowledge in older people. Research has shown that regular exercise in older people can help reduce the risk of cognitive decline and memory loss.

  1. Improves Quality of Life

Gymnastics for older people allows participants to stay active, energetic and achieve positive life goals. This activity also increases the zest for life, optimism, and self-confidence.

Hypertension Education for Older People

After older people’s exercise was completed, older people received health education about high blood pressure and how to prevent it. As they get older, older people become more susceptible to various health problems, including hypertension or high blood pressure.

Hypertension can seriously impact older people’s health and increase the risk of heart disease, stroke, kidney problems, and other health problems. Therefore, it is important to educate older people about hypertension management to ensure optimal health.

All older people listened to the explanation with great interest and actively participated in questions and discussions.

Elderly Health Examination and Nutritional Food Packages

Older people also receive medical examination services by checking blood pressure, temporary blood sugar, uric acid, and cholesterol.

After that, they also get nutritious food packages before the activity is over.

“Thank you for paying attention to grandmothers like us. God bless you all,” Een (70 years old).

Through the activities held on National Elderly Day, it is hoped that people will become aware of the importance of caring for and respecting older people. Older people are a valuable resource that deserves respect, and actions like this are a positive step in helping them live healthy and dignified life.
