Flash Floods Strike Padang Again; Cita Sehat Distributes Food and Helps Children Who Survived the Floods Cope with Trauma
Padang, August 8, 2026 — Flash floods once again struck the city of Padang on August 3, 2026. This disaster hit several areas that had previously been affected in late 2025 and even spread to new areas. In Lapau Munggu, Kuranji District, 40 households—or about 150 people—were affected and had to take shelter in evacuation tents.
Although the water has receded, residents are still feeling the effects of the disaster. Some homes were damaged or even collapsed, while residents’ belongings were swept away by the floodwaters. These conditions have prevented some survivors from returning home, leading them to remain at the evacuation sites.
For residents, the disaster has left more than just physical damage. A sense of fear still lingers, especially when it rains again.
When the Rain Falls, the Trauma Returns
Through the WASH GOOD program, Cita Sehat distributed clean water aid to communities in the southern region of East Lombok on August 8 and 9, 2026.
A total of five tanks—equivalent to 25,000 liters of clean water—were distributed to communities in Sekaroh Village and Kalianta Village.
This aid is expected to help meet the water needs of approximately 50–80 households facing limited access to clean water.
This distribution is part of Cita Sehat’s efforts to help communities meet their basic needs while alleviating the burden on residents who have had to wait for periodic water distributions.
Cita Sehat Distributes 150 Food Packages and Provides Psychosocial Services
As a quick response, Cita Sehat distributed 150 ready-to-eat meal packages to affected residents in Lapau Munggu on August 8, 2026.
In addition to food aid, Cita Sehat also provided psychosocial services to 50 child disaster survivors. The program was designed around activities relevant to children, such as storytelling, play, and trauma healing.
This approach was taken to create a safer and more enjoyable environment for the children after they had faced the disaster.
Participants also received supplementary food in the form of milk, cookies, and candy as part of the support provided during the activities.
From Today’s Aid to Recovery
Disaster response isn’t just about being there when the floodwaters come—it’s also about supporting communities as they begin to rebuild their lives after a disaster.
Food aid helps meet the basic needs of survivors living in evacuation centers. Meanwhile, psychosocial services are part of the effort to help children cope with the difficult experiences they’ve endured.
One of the affected residents, Mrs. Farida, expressed her gratitude for Cita Sehat’s presence amid conditions that remain fraught with uncertainty.

Cita Sehat’s presence, alongside its volunteers, is part of the effort to ensure survivors do not face the recovery process alone. The support provided is expected to help meet urgent needs while strengthening the recovery process for the affected communities.
