Surabaya, July 1, 2026 – Cita Sehat has once again demonstrated its commitment to providing accessible healthcare services by organizing a Free Health Screening Program in Bendul Merisi Village, Wonocolo Subdistrict, Surabaya. This program was made possible through a collaboration with Doctor of Excellence, an international medical student organization comprising students from the University of Hong Kong (HKU) and the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK).
A total of 100 residents participated in a series of preventive health screenings designed to help the community identify health issues early on. This initiative also serves as proof that cross-border collaboration can have a tangible impact on improving the health of the Indonesian people.
In addition to providing medical care, this initiative also fosters a spirit of humanitarianism, education, and cultural exchange through the direct involvement of 30 international medical students who serve the community alongside the Cita Sehat team.
Health Screenings to Detect the Risk of Noncommunicable Diseases Early on

Noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) such as hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and high cholesterol remain a major challenge for public health in Indonesia. Unfortunately, many new cases are not detected until the disease has reached an advanced stage due to a lack of routine health checkups.
Through this initiative, residents received basic health screening services, including:
- Anthropometric examinations include measurements of weight, height, and Body Mass Index (BMI).
- Vital signs and metabolic tests include blood pressure, random blood glucose, total cholesterol, and uric acid levels.
- Sensory screenings include tests of vision and hearing.
This screening is an important first step in helping people understand their health status so they can promptly seek medical advice or make lifestyle changes if any risk factors for disease are identified.
In addition to receiving health care, all participants also received nutrition packages to help meet their daily nutritional needs, which are an important part of maintaining overall health.
Residents’ Enthusiasm for the International Collaboration
The arrival of medical students from Hong Kong was warmly welcomed by the Bendul Merisi community. In addition to providing health services, the students also interacted directly with residents, creating an atmosphere of camaraderie and a spirit of sharing.
The Head of the Bendul Merisi Subdistrict, Mr. Rully Prasetya Negara, S.STP., M.Si., expressed his appreciation for the event.
“We are deeply grateful and appreciate the concrete actions taken by Cita Sehat and the Doctor of Excellence students. The presence of these students from Hong Kong not only helps our residents detect health issues early on, but also brings a positive spirit of cultural exchange and social awareness to the Bendul Merisi area.”
This recognition reflects the fact that collaboration between social organizations, academics, and the community can yield broader benefits than simply providing health care.
Serving as a Learning Environment for Future Doctors Around the World

For students participating in the Doctor of Excellence program, this activity provides a valuable opportunity to gain firsthand insight into community-based healthcare in Indonesia.
Through their interactions with the urban community in Surabaya, they not only honed their clinical skills but also strengthened their empathy, communication, and social awareness—all of which are essential aspects of the healthcare profession.
This collaboration proves that humanitarian missions know no national borders. When science is combined with social compassion, the result is healthcare that benefits the community while also serving as a learning experience for future generations of doctors.

Cita Sehat’s Commitment to Building Inclusive Access to Healthcare

The collaboration with Doctor of Excellence is a concrete example of this commitment to expanding access to quality healthcare services for the community. By providing preventive health screenings directly in residents’ neighborhoods, it is hoped that more people will become aware of the importance of early detection before diseases progress to a more serious stage.
Cita Sehat will continue to strengthen its collaboration with various partners to deliver health programs that are inclusive, sustainable, and have a broad impact.
