Caring for People With Mental Disorders

Background

WHO (2020) estimates, in low and middle income countries, there are more than 75 percent of citizens who suffer from mental disorders and cannot access health services to defeat their mental problems.

The case of mental disorders in Indonesia itself based on Basic Health Research (Riskesdas) in 2018 has increased. This can be seen from the increase in the prevalence of family having ODGJ (People with Mental Disorders) in Indonesia. Per 1000 family, there are 7 households with ODGJ, so the number is estimated to be around 450 thousand severe mental disorder.

Meanwhile, depressive disorders have started to occur since the age range of adolescents (15-24 years) with a prevalence of 6.2%. The pattern of the prevalence of depression increases with accruing age.

Basic Health Research (Riskesdas) in 2018 explained that the prevalence of mental emotional disorders in adolescents aged over 15 has increased from 6 percent in 2013 to 9.8 percent in 2018.
